25 Jan 2012 : National Indoor Div 2 round up
The men';s indoor side rounded off their 2011/12 campaign at Lilleshall over the last weekend, finally finishing 4th after the five matches.

On Saturday they lost both games, 3-8 against Holcombe and 7-8 against Sheffield Hallam.

As they did at Eastleigh they were better on the Sunday, beating Ipswich 6-1 and then Cannock 6-5 before losing narrowly to Southgate, a game which, if they had won, would have seen them promoted to Division One for 2012. The team were understandably annoyed with the outcome.

09 Jan 2012 : National Indoor Success
National Indoor SuccessThe men's indoor side again did the club proud in the National Indoor competition at Eastleigh, Southampton over the weekend.

On Sunday Stags turned round their disappointing Saturday showing when they suffered avoidable narrow defeats to Southgate (6-7) and Bath Bucc's (7-8) as they racked up the goals to become the highest scoring side in the group.

With a lot of work to do to preserve their Div. 2 status they saw off Isca 9-6, Woking 10-3 and then had a nerve wracking final game against Holcombe where after having been 6-3 up they faced a final short corner in the dying seconds with the score at 6-6, but held on the secure third place in the table and a berth in the Div. 2 stage at Lilleshall National Sports Centre over the weekend of 21/22 Jan.

Congratulations to Sulley, Jabba and the team.

Now it's back to the small matter of winning Prem A!!!

06 Dec 2011 : Men's East Indoor Championship Report
The "1st team" took a break from their successful outdoor season to compete in the East Indoor Championships in Cambridge last Saturday.

Stags achieved National League status after last year's tournament and were keen to see if they could make progress this year against higher ranked opponents St Albans, Chelmsford and Old Loughtonians, with Havering completing the line up for the day.

With four 40 minute games the day's schedule was a punishing one and Stags took on "Old Lought's" in the first game.

A slow start against the Essex team saw them go three goals down before they could open their account. The game went on to finish 4-1 to Loughts.

In their second match, against St Albans, Stags were on better form and despite going a goal down early on, they fought back and raced into a 4-1 lead with goals from Shea, Max and a brace from Dan. St Albans pulled one back before West Herts restored their three goal cushion to record their first ever win against the "Tangerines" in competitive hockey.

The game against Chelmsford was truly one to thrill the crowd; and keep the scorers on their toes too as it turned out, as the teams shared eight goals in the first half before West Herts pulled away to record a 9-5 victory with goals from Dan, Max and Shea (all 2) and further goals from Gordo, Sieffy and Mall. Sieffy had his face remodelled yet again when Dillet Gilkes caught him on the top lip (and below the nose) causing a bad split requiring stitches.

Havering were the final fixture of the day, and with both sets of players tired from the previous three games it was a quiet affair with West Herts going into the break 1-0, before stepping it up a gear in the second; a hattrick from Dan and goals from Buckers, Max and Shea ensured a comfortable win.

Second place in the competition was a great reward for a hard day and the team now look forward to the National competition in January.
