Match Report

Match Report - 22 Nov 2009, WEST HERTS HOCKEY CLUB U16 Girls beat Phoenix & Ranelagh

Rain nearly stopped play - but not quite.

After getting drenched, and then waiting for the pitch to drain the umpires finally gave the go ahead for the game to commence.

P&R were a very organised and impressive team, who started off very well pushing us into our half. Some good play soon let us know we were on for a tough match.

West Herts soon settled and started to play well as a team. An early goal from Sally settled our nerves and our second goal, from Charlie, made us feel a little easier.

The backs were put under pressure, but put up a strong line and with some good play, passes and switching they managed to keep the P&E attack at bay. The few balls that made it through were cleared well by Jess in goal.

Some excellent work in midfield enabled our team to keep feeding the ball to our forwards.

The forwards worked very well together, all making strong runs at goal. Charlie made several great runs , finishing with strong crosses. Both Sally and Naomi were always in the right place at the right time waiting for the slip to finish most of these crosses off as a goal.

All players played extremely well and no one stood out as player of the match. Sophie C was a great choice of Captain leading the warm up and taking contol during the match with good calling and direction.

The oppo team mnager commented on what a strong and well organised team West Herts were who thoroughly deserved their win.
