Fun 5-a-side hockey for Local Companies
Every Tuesday & Thursday at 6.45pm in June & July 2012. Email william@the-teamworks.co.uk if you would like to enter your company team in 2012; the greatest sporting year in this country's history.
Snow White & 7 Dwarfs (Access) kept their noses in-front to win the most keenly contested H5s yet.
Wow, what a finale. The Irish Leprechauns (GEii) tried everything to turn the top of the table upside down. Despite free Guinness, four-leaf clovers and lots of lucky charms, Access held on to an assailable lead. In a late twist, the Wild Animals of Hertsmere roared to victory over Access to secure third place and gift GEii a shot at the title. It was not to be, and Access won the 2011 title on the smallest of margins; just 0.34 points separating the top two teams.
Early defeats meant the party was over for the Royal Wedding (TKMaxx). They slipped back into to fourth place, but they vowed to be back next year. The battle of the Baywatch 'babes' was won by x-rate Brazilian Baywatch crew of DSGi. Fifty fancy dress points helped DSGi dive into fifth place. Delayed by oil spills of the Atlantic, the Umpa Lumpas of BP held onto 6th with complements from the fancy dress judges coming too late to stay higher. GEi and the domestic SuperHeroes of TopGolf completed the table. Perhaps the two most improved teams over the 8 weeks, they will both be back next year.
It has been an excellent H5s season. Both the quality of the hockey and the fancy dress was extraordinary. We hope you have all caught the bug and keep playing hockey with us as our new season approaches.
Training starts on Thursday 8th September from 8.30pm (at the astro). You are all very welcome. You will get fit and get some top coaching to keep improving your hockey skills; if not for the full winter season, at least for your H5s team next year.
Pictures to follow!!!!!
LOST PROPERTY: An unfeasible amount of hair, and what looks like wool, was handed in by the ground staff this morning.

TKMaxx Winners 2010

Hockey was the overall winner. Cheese!
The 2011 H5s season sees three new teams join the competition. A warm welcome to BP, TopGolf and Hertsmere Council.
Three weeks in and people were already showing signs of talent on the pitch and in the Essex. It is very good to see so many people getting to grips with the game of hockey and enjoying a few laughs along the way.
We are over half way and despite a big lead early on Access have been pegged back in Week 5. GEii had a good week and TKMaxx stayed on their shoulder. Hertsmere, BP and GEi all moved up the table this week at the expense of DSGi and TopGolf.
RULES of the GAME & A REPORT on the 2010 SEASON follows:
Wow what a finish! H5s has been excellent this year; massively improved performances from every one and some really competitive games took us to the tightest finish since H5s started in 2008. Decimal points separated the top three teams and any one could have been the winners right to the last game on the last night.
Thank you to all the captains for working so hard getting your team out each week and thank you to each and everyone of one who played your heart out each week. Thank you to all the umpires who helped out and the H5s committee for putting on a good show right up to the Free BBQ & Beers on the last night.
New comers are welcome to join us and we will make sure you get some pitch time if you come down any Thursday evening of the H5s season. This will be from 6.45pm for a 7.00pm start.
In 2011 we will start on Thursday 9th June and continue until the Free BBQ & Beer night on 28th July.
We had eight teams in the league this year; up from six in 2009. How many in 2011? TK Maxx (above) will be looking to defend their title for the second year in a row!
Would you like to join us? Corporate Hockey5s is a five-a-side mixed mini-league where people can learn this great game; on and off the pitch! Each night teams play every other team there. This means you will have three or four 15 minute matches, one way and on half the full size pitch. You can have as big a squad as you can muster, but you must have only 5 players on the pitch; at least two must be ladies. Match fees are £20.00 per team. We have adapted the rules of hockey to keep it safe and fun for everyone.
We do have a few companies with only 2 or 3 people keen to play. If you have the same number we can organise a merger so that you can join us on the pitch and up the pub afterwards. Yes the pub afterwards is part of the game of hockey and we will finish the H5s season with a BBQ & beers (until 5.00am in 2010!).
So, if you have a team of budding hockey players at work who need some exercise, or just want a bit of a fun runaround, why not sign up? They will be able to experience such novelties as the "Zulu" start to each game and self-pass free hits, surely the best thing to happen to the game in the last twenty years (well since the abolition of offside).

The last night of H5s was fancy dress so the league table above includes the bonus points awarded for the best outfits. DSGi took a maximum 50 points playing in inflatable ostrich costumes! Quite an achievement and 'de rigueur' for the Ladies 4s next season. TKMaxx as St Trinans, Access straight from Hawaii and the Scousers of GE stole 20 points each. Total looked perfect in pink and black; fancy but not really fancy dress.
The winning team holds the West Herts Corporate Hockey5s trophy for a year. The top three placed teams keep a replica trophy to display with pride in their trophy cabinet at work for ever more.
Final positions are calculated by diving the total points by the total games played. Teams must attend and play at least four nights of H5s to qualify for a final league position. FINAL POSITIONS - TKMaxx 7.76; Access 7.54; GE 7.46; T-Mobile 5.36; DSGi 5.15. Also placed, but short of appearances, were Total (6.9), GEII (5) and KPMG (7.66). Thank you one and all for taking part and CONGRATULATIONS to TKMaxx.

Match fees are £20-00 per team each evening, you will usually have 4 games each week and there will be a chance to chat about the games afterwards over a cold glass of something...

Can I kick it? Er, no you can't
