About West Herts Hockey Club
With its 1st XI's playing in the top tier of the East Leagues, and with six mens and four ladies teams in all, West Herts aims to provide hockey for all standards of player, man and woman, boy & girl-regardless of age.
The men's teams, along with the ladies 1st XI, all play in the East league, with the rest of the ladies teams competing in the 5 Counties league.
We share an excellent astroturf pitch with Watford Boys Grammar school, and provide junior hockey coaching sessions on Sundays, beginning with Under-11s; all our coaching is with fully CRB checked coaches.
Our ambition ultimately, is to acquire National League status for both mens and ladies 1st XI's; regardless of the outcome of that mission however, the emphasis is always on providing fun both on and off the field.
The club has now achieved CLUBS FIRST status, and making excellent use of local authority funding to take hockey into junior and senior schools to broaden interest in the game in the Watford area.
We play all year round and indoors as well, with teams competing in the Southgate league in the summer months, plus a mixed seven-a-side tournament of our own, with several local clubs joining West Herts' own members at this novel and high scoring form of the game. The men's indoor side made it into the National competition in 2009.
We're not averse either to playing the game abroad (and maybe sampling a beer or two); in recent years we have sent teams to Dublin, Lier in Belgium, Kiel & Travemunde in Germany, Rotterdam and Eindhoven in the Netherlands, Barcelona, and Verona. In 2010 the tourists went to northern France to partake in "Frogfest".
No matter where we play though, the emphasis is on having fun, and enjoying the tremendous sociability and cameraderie that can be found in the sport of Hockey- why not come and join us...
