West Herts Hockey Club - ABOUT

About West Herts Hockey Club

With its mens and ladies 1st XIs playing in the East Conferences of the National League, and with seven mens and five ladies teams in all, West Herts aims to provide hockey for all standards of player, man and woman, boy & girl-regardless of age.

The other men's teams, along with the ladies 2nd XI all play in the
East league, with the rest of the ladies teams competing in the 5 Counties league.

We share an excellent astroturf pitch with Watford Boy's Grammar school, and provide junior hockey coaching sessions on Sundays, beginning with Under-11s; all our coaching is with fully CRB checked coaches.

Having acquired National League status for both 1st XI's the onus is on staying there and making the most of the benefits that have come with it. Junior and senior memberships are both booming and, whatever happens at the top end of the clue, the emphasis is always on providing fun both on and off the field, and ensuring the game is played with respect for both our opponents and match officials.

The club has CLUBS FIRST
status, and making excellent use of local authority funding to take hockey into junior and senior schools to broaden interest in the game in the Watford area.

The men's indoor side is in the National League too attaining Division 2 status in 2013/4 and Division 1 in 2015.

We're not averse either to playing the game abroad (and maybe sampling a beer or two); in recent years we have sent teams to Dublin, Lier in Belgium, Kiel & Travemunde in Germany, Rotterdam and Eindhoven in the Netherlands, Barcelona, and Verona. In 2010 the tourists went to northern France to partake in "Frogfest".

No matter where we play though, t
he emphasis is on having fun, and enjoying the tremendous sociability and camaraderie that can be found in the sport of Hockey- why not come and join us...
